Has the rarely present leather button fastener which os 1940 dated and maker marked. Strap I'm not sure if period as it is not leather but some kind of man made material, unless germans had that but I doubt it. This along with other items I was able to get at an estate sale in Nassau County, NY last week was brought back by a published author and a veteran of WW2 Murray Leff. Look up his book Lens of infantryman. He also has youtube video interviews where he speaks of his bloody encounters.
